From All Mod Cons, but I think Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt‘s version, which was recorded for NME compilation tape Racket Packet in 1983, beats it hands down. Paul Weller may well have thought so too, given his approach to EBTG to record The Paris Match when he got The Style Council underway.
THE NEW VINYL VILLAIN 
I agree but, conversely, always preferred TSC’s own version of Paris Match to EBTG’s, featuring, as it does, one of Paul Weller’s finest ever vocal performances, imho.
The beauty is in the simplicity of the song and the beauty of Weller’s lyric. Anyone who records English Rose MUST invest themselves in the song.
