This is something I’ve picked up from elsewhere. And apologies if I mess up some of the narrative as I’m sort of fumbling in the dark.

Outernationale is the name used by Scottish producer, writer and remixer Derek Miller.
If the info on t’internet is correct, then back in 2011, Outernationale digitally released a four-song EP, three of which were interpretations of Atmosphere, the Joy Division song that was originally released back in 1989. The fourth song on the EP was a cover of Pictures in My Mind, that had, also in 2011, been recorded by Peter Hook & The Light.
The vocalist engaged on the project was none other than Paul Haig, no stranger to this particular blog and whose own solo singles were once featured in a long-running series a few years back.
The three versions of Atmosphere are described as ‘main mix’, ‘dub’ and ‘instrumental’, and as the old Ronseal advert used to go, it does exactly what it says on the tin. Peter Hook has given his approval to it all, seemingly including the dub version in DJ sets over the years.
My own take on things????
Well, I did include the track as one side of a ‘bonus 7″‘ when I pulled together a Paul Haig ICA (#276) for back in February 2021. I called it ‘brilliantly different….’
