Side 3, Track 3 of London Calling, the third studio album from The Clash, released in December 1979.
Satirical and humorous. Not sure if any radio stations actually played it back in the day. On the one hand, there were the drug references, while there was also a restriction that didn’t allow songs mentioning brand names – which is why Ray Davies had previously had to change part of the lyric on Lola to get round a BBC ban.
The opening yell of ‘Elevator, Going Up!’ on Koka Kola was later sampled by Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine on Shoppers’ Paradise, one of the best tracks on their outstanding 1991 album, 30 Something.
