THE 12″ LUCKY DIP (36): Working Men’s Club – X

I’m going to delve into the vaults of the truly majestic No Badger Required blog, as it was SWC who single-handedly introduced me to this band, and by extension this song.  These are SWC’s words from back in December 2022:-

I apologise if I am repeating myself but right now, I honestly think that Working Mens Club are the best band in the UK. Their second album ‘Fear Fear’ is the finest album I have listened to all year. Its incredible, as close to a ‘Perfect’ album as I have heard in about four years. Really that good. I mean the signs were all there on their debut album, that in itself was a dizzying affair, a madcap blend of guitars, techno and synthpop held together by the lyrics and deadpan delivery of their singer Sydney Minksy Sergeant.

Further signs were hinted at when the band released the standalone single ‘X’ which heavily inferred that the band were fully embracing synths and techno for the new album.

I recently got my hands on the 12″ release of the single, which came out on Heavenly Records in November 2021. It contains two remixes plus instrumental versions of said remixes.  They are, in my very very humble opinion, well worth sharing with you…although I accept not everyone might agree!

Almost 30 minutes of music today.  Apologies if it’s not to your taste.  I’m sure something will come along soon enough to get you back on board.
