As mentioned before, all the postings for the initial Group stages were readied, typed up, and posted at the same time, weeks in advance. My great fear was that folk wouldn’t respond well to it, and with the traffic to TVV being well under half of what it was back in 2018 the last time an ICA World Cup was held, I anticipated that voter turnout would be low. I’ve been very pleasantly surprised with the responses and the results of Group C, from the ICAs provided by Hybrid Social Professor, will be revealed tomorrow.
This week, seventeen songs are competing for your votes, with eight of them set to qualify for the knock-out stages. As ever, all the songs, are #1 from all the relevant ICAs, and they are offered up in alphabetical order of the singer or group involved. Some of the ICAs are the work of yours truly, while others came from guest contributors.

Late to the party, but I have a question… if e.g. Ballboy “Avant Garde Music” qualifies this week, will we be seeing this same song in the next round, or a different track from ICA 175? Are we voting for the song or the artist (or the ICA)?
Hi there Curious.
Great questions.
Once a song has been used in the qualifying round, it won’t appear again in the knockout stages. Similarly, if a song from another part of the ICA is used in the Round of 64, it can’t be used in any subsequent rounds.
Most of the ICAs have ten songs. To reach the final, six of these will require to have been used (Qualifying plus Rounds of 64, 32, 16, 8 and the semi-finals). The singer/band in question will be represented in the final by one of whatever songs hasn’t been ‘fielded’ already.
My own view as organiser is that everyone is being asked to vote on the song, but in all hoesty, there’s no hard or fast rule about it. I’m just delighted folk are getting on board.

Blancmange – Distant Storm (ICA 251)

Then:

And a late charge by…

This wasn;t too tricky for me… but at makes the second round look incredibly strong.
Thanks for the explanation JC. Here are my votes, although I confess I’m thinking also about other songs on some of these ICAs that I’d love to see come up in another round… Thanks for organizing this!

Yeah, this was a tuff’un. A batch of good songs overall. A couple I knew from the get-go, but those remaining 6…
Some like the Beatles, I had to knock out because they are just too popular, seemed too easy a vote…maybe not avante garde enough?
Others good, but just didn’t grab me on first listenings…maybe they can become favorites on repeated listens.
So, here’s my picks;
Ballboy
Edwyn Collins
Muse
Pop Will Eat Itself
Ramones
Sons and Daughters
The Wave Pictures
Pink Kross
Here’s my choice . Thanks!!
