Ah Christmas. Don’t you just love it. The chocolate, the cake, the presents, the copious amount of alcohol, the creepy uncle who smells of haddock, the Queen’s speech at 3pm, your granny snoring on the sofa after three small sweet sherries, Cliff Richard, Michael McIntyre, an hour long Mrs Brown’s Boys special, The Sound of Music, The Great Escape, The Italian Job only blowing the bloody doors off, new toys broken by Boxing Day and novelty records.

In 1991 The Family Cat decided to have a go at being Christmas Number One. They recorded a crackly old version of Big Star’s ‘Jesus Christ’ complete with added sleigh bells and Christmassy sounding effects.
They failed miserably.
This was supposed to be a Christmas ICA written whilst ripped to the tits on brandy and stuffed to the gills with Stollen. I should have been surrounded by snow, log fires, and have Bing Crosby and David Bowie ‘Pa Rum Pum Pumming’ away in the background in frankly shocking jumpers.
I failed miserably.
Consistency people, consistency.

Excellent choice, SWC. As coincidence would have it, I had a go at one of my occasional ‘Bad Santa’ mixes last night, whilst awash in whisky & Twiglets. I think this inevitably led me down a different path than your ICA, though it does include a version of ‘Jesus Christ’, albeit by Teenage Fanclub. I posted it on my Mixcloud page this morning, just before my daily check in with TVV. Click on my name for a link if you’re a glutton for punishment.
Thanks to JC for another brilliant year of TVV, but one which has felt more important than ever. Thanks also to the wider TVV community for your contributions, comments and incredible stories and, most of all, for being there during this crappy year.

Another hilarious post by SWC – thanks mate, much needed. Thanks to JC for keeping my malady at bay this year. More R.E.M. after Christmas will continue to keep me awake. Have as good time as it’s possible to have, everyone. I’m going to eat lots of rich fruitcake and drink whatever non-alcoholic beverages I can lay my hands on. Dammit, it’s times like these I wish I could drink myself into a stupor…
