THIS MONTH’S MONTHLY MIX IS A GUEST OFFERING

I’ve been very lucky to get to know Jan Burnett of Spare Snare in recent years, after what was an initial chance encounter.  He’s one of the nicest persons you’ll ever encounter and he’s probably the most knowledgable person involved in the music scene in Scotland, which is why I was delighted when he agreed to come up with a mix for this monthly series.

Jan’s tastes are very eclectic, but his real love is for pop music with hints of electronica, as can partly be evidenced by this offering.    It’s a rather wonderful listen, with some ridiculously good switches between songs

  1. I own only the opener and the closer. Does that make me the curator? I haven’t heard of many of the others – I’m the opposite of eclectic* – the word used as a synonym to eclectic evades me.

  2. Jan from Spare Snare once wrote something very nice about No Badger Required on his Facebook Page and I got about a thousand percent rise in visits for the next week or so.
So I think he’s great and therefore so is any mix he does.
    Swc.

  3. Thanks for this great mix. After listening to it several times, I was able to figure out the optimal volume for playing the songs:

    87988 76888 79288 (0 = silent, 9 = very loud)
uuuuo uuuuu koxuu (u = unknown, k = known, o = owned, x = unknown, but owned by my wife as a record and CD)

    Additional thoughts:
    a) I prefer the acoustic version of “If the Stars …” over the album version. The beginning brought “Fallin’ Rain” by Karl Blau to my mind. Another great song for finalizing a mix.
    b) Some skillful transitions (My favourite: Eno • Hyde -> Depeche Mode)
    c) Extra Credits to Gary Numan, Herb Alpert, Chuck D and Bambi
