Hopefully you’ll recall that this blog has single-handedly been responsible for the re-discovery of a band that according to one obsessed fan should have been the future of indie rock’n’roll. Read here for a reminder.
The renaissance continues thanks to the wonderful Webbie who has included Glenn Hoddle’s Ghost in a podcast whose common theme is all songs have a football title, but none of them are actually about the beautiful game. Among the acts featured are The Undertones, Glasvegas, Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros, The Smiths………and The Badgers.

That’s as unlikely as Scotland ever again qualifying for a major championship.
no comments…? is there a badgers backlash…?
is everyone saying “I liked them before they were popular” etc…?
I literally liked them first.
I think it’s shocking how everyone’s now jumped on the Badgers bandwagon. I mean they were good. Really good as Micky Hazard made plain. But none of us really got them at the time. Their music was just a little too next year, sexy but not in a Prince way, anthemic but not in an anthem way, less rockin’ than Elvis, but more rollin’ than Limp Bizkit. What more could we, the indie cognoscenti, have wanted? But, no, we rejected them. Cast them out to a life of working 9-to-5 what a way to make a living. Denied them the joys of turning Hucknall away from their beach party, drinking coke with the Gallaghers, doing an urban mix of their latest single with Sheeran.
swc liked them. I get that. But the rest of us, we’re pretending. Let’s forget that old Badger cult, and celebrate Simply Red, still holding back the years…
Belated birthday wishes, Tim B.
That is my favourite comment on this blog ever Jacques.
Ah cheers JC. It was reading that post and discovering the song which partly inspired me to create the pod.
The wit swirling around The Vinyl Villain is simply a wonderful thing!
